
Dr. Samarth Patel completed his Internal Medicine training at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (Elmhurst). After completing his residency, he went on to complete a fellowship in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Virginia Commonwealth University. He underwent an additional year of specialized training in Transplant Hepatology. Prior to joining Eastern Pennsylvania Gastroenterology and Liver Specialists, Dr. Patel served as an assistant professor of Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University and staff attending at the Central Virginia VA Health Care System. While there, he managed complex patients in the pre and post liver transplant setting while also educating health care professionals including medical students, residents and fellows.
Dr. Patel currently works for Eastern Pennsylvania Gastroenterology and Liver Specialists in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Additionally, he is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He is triple board certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology and transplant hepatology. His special Interests include viral hepatitis, alcohol associated liver disease, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, and liver transplant.
Dr. Patel conducts clinical research, and his research interests include nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, non-invasive assessment of liver fibrosis and liver transplantation. He has authored articles in several peer-reviewed journals. In addition, he has presented his research work at multiple national and international conferences. He is a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Gastroenterological Association.
